Flicker Flicker

As i stood in my kitchen this morning, putting my lunch together, the lights dimmed momentarily. Shortly afterward there was footage on the Weather Network(i think) about a transformer fire. Then it was on BT. Weird. No harm done here though.

Knights 6 Majors 0

So, that had to be the least exciting shutout i've ever seen. Last nights game at the JLC hardly got a rise out of the crowd, until after the final whistle when things got a little chippy. The game itself however was quite boring, if you saw it you probably stopped watching it. If you were there you know what i mean. We were a little late getting to our seats after the first intermission. 2 minutes late actually. And we somehow missed 2 goals! We heard the crowd cheer for the second goal, but it was dead quiet before that. What gives? Things were louder during intermission, mostly from everyone talking. Oh well, they can't all be barn burners....

Nigiri vs Maki: Epilogue

Our sushi adventures have not ended. Before the game we went for some. Then we had to have some pizza to completely fill up. We're a little out of touch. We ordered the cheapest things we could without it being "water and a side salad". We'd forgotten what a la carte sushi prices are like. Aye Carumba! No wonder the all you can eat place is so popular. So we had 3 rolls and 5 peices for what today's filling lunch cost. Yes we've not given it up. We're just modifying. Sushi for weekend lunch instead of weekday dinner, all for the same price as a nice appetizer downtown.

An amazing ability...

I used to have an amazing ability to not have my calls and emails returned. To the point that i lost out on quite a few things. Eventually i even lost contact with some people. Sometime i wonder what they're up to......

I've tried writing something about the past. I've tried and failed. It's disjointed and inadequate. I've deleted it half a dozen times. I've been thinking about how i lost touch with people. How i didn't know some of them all that well. There used to be people whom i knew, or knew of, who probably didn't know me. But, there were people i did know who eventually i stopped seeing or talking to. But not for any good reason. Mostly because of unreturned calls and emails. Maybe because of busy signals. Maybe because of opposite working schedules. Some because of distance created by post secondary education. Distance, a lack of transportation and high long distance rates. However, just as often as my phone didn't ring I didn't make any calls. I suppose i took for granted that i'd see certain people again, and then one day the casual network i belonged to was too full of holes to be any use. :(

What are you gonna do?

Nigiri vs Maki: The Goodbye

So it has become our habit to eat at Wonder Sushi quite often. It's still not cheap (c'mon, it's Ontario) but it is very good and reasonable. Today i wasn't feeling so great so for the first time in a long time i had miso. Mmmmm warming miso. Anyway, we've decided (after watching today's Oprah about debt reduction) that we will make today our sushi farewell for a while. Also we will go back to the gym, instead of just paying for it. Along with that of course must be better dinner planning so we don't have to eat out so much and so that when we get home from the gym it isn't going to take forever to make dinner. Maybe there should be punctuation in that sentence, maybe not. With the money we save maybe we'll be able to take a trip, and be in better shape. Both physical and financial shape. We'll see. I'll [try to] keep you posted. Here's to the new plan. Moneysense, fitness and being on the ball.

I hear sushi's cheap in Vancouver.....

Mmmmmm, coffee

So i cleaned everything. I took the grinder apart and brushed it out. I washed the parts that are washable. I washed the coffee maker itself, and i even washed the measuring cup i use for water. I took out the old water filter. I made a pot of hot vinegar, then a pot of hot water. I put the filter back in and made some coffee. Mmmmm. So, the beans were never the problem, it was likely the resevoir. Or it was the grinder. Or it was the water filter. Or it was my cup from the other day. Regardless, it's much better now. Mmmmm.

i've made some changes and you no longer need be registered to leave comments. However, i get to moderate them before they appear

Unpleasant coffee

I've had a problem the last two days with my coffee tasting a little off. Maybe ive been drinking too much Timmy's and my palate is off, but i doubt it. The problem is that there are just too many variables to pin it down. I guess i'll just have too clean all the apparati. The beans might be stale (stoopid Costco and their giant quantities), the grinder might be gummed up and oily, the water filter might need replacing, the resevior does need cleaning, the carafe equivalent (i'll explain some other time) might need to be scrubbed out. I made some Moka Pot coffee too and it seemed off. Again, might be the water, might be the beans, might be the grinder, might be the pot. I'll just have to clean everything and start again. or i could just put lots of brandy in every cup. i'm sure that would make it tast better.....

Looks like winter's sticking around....

Well, so much for our mild winter. It has arrived. We're living in an icy wonderland. Maybe not a wonderland so much as a dangerland. I'm glad we have a garage, no icicles on the car for me. no sir, just frozen nostrils like everyone else.

Once again i sit staring at a blank screen after logging in to blogger. Is it "logging in"? Or is it logining? Some programs prompt you to login. some to log-in. Perhaps sign in clears up the confusion. "I'm signed in" not "sign-in-ed". Or, whatever. It doesn't matter much, you're all washed up. ( imagine music notes dancing around my words).

Here's picture of a cat, beware!

Sushi Sushi Sushi!

Sushi has become our new Viet-Thai. Viet-Thai was our new Red Lobster. Red Lobster was Cutes' new Olive Garden. I could go on. But i won't. Haven't been to the gym yet this year. Been for sushi half a dozen times, or so it seems.....

Okay, 3 times.

What was i looking for?

Things happen, or thoughts occur that i think would be good blog fodder. Then, when i go to blog i can't think of anything. I have a similar problem with search engines, i'll think of some topic i want to look up. "I should look that up," i'll say to myself, "The next time i'm online." Then i get online and i visit the same old sites, or i google people i know. (googling myslef is a lost cause, trust me). Very frustrating. The same thing used to happen at record stores (no one ever calls them "CD stores") still does, i just don't go as often. "I wonder if they have this band, or that band," i'd think on my way there."Perhaps i'll need to special order that Space Streakings CD." I'd get to the store and have an attack of 'DUH' and just go through the alphabet hoping something would seem familiar.

When i was younger than that i'd have trouble at comic book stores. (people still call them that) I'd be looking for a back issue of such and such and end up looking at them same 4 titles or going through the alphabet.

Maybe i need to write myself notes or something, obviously the mental ones don't work very well (please don't agree too strongly) Unfortunatley my note writing space is very limited. Anything more than 3 words is really pushing it. More on that some other time.

The Cat

He seems to be recovering. He had a cold. A sneezy cat is a very pathetic thing.

The Long Lost Friend

I've discovered that some people blog infrequently. And some people blog constantly, possibly fueled by coffee. OMG!

Dominican Window
Back at work today, it was mercifully slow. All the better to ease back in to it. Everyone wants to know how our trip was. Less than stellar hotel, so-so weather, Cutes getting sick. Everyone pretty much made the same face. "Aww, that's too bad." Yes, being sick on holiday is not good. It's too bad that it all photographed so well, but it just might be true that i took nice pictures. Oh well, what're you gonna do? Every January i think of the same song by Scrawl. Ah, memories.....
